A guide from HQINS

Review what has changed

A move, renovation, new vehicle, marriage, child, caregiving responsibility or job change can be a reason to review coverage. Begin with the changes rather than a list of products. Note the dates and the responsibilities that now matter most.

Look at the details of your home coverage

Discuss rebuilding considerations, personal belongings, valuables, deductibles and liability. Standard homeowners policies generally exclude flood and earthquake damage, which may call for separate coverage. Ask about the specific terms and options that apply to your location and policy.

Connect auto and personal liability

Review the people driving, the vehicles used and the limits on your existing policies. Ask whether umbrella or excess liability coverage deserves consideration and what underlying limits or conditions would be required. The right discussion includes exclusions and coordination, not only the headline limit.

Consider who depends on your income

Life insurance and disability insurance serve different purposes. Discuss the people who depend on you, ongoing obligations and the income that would be needed if circumstances changed. Existing employer benefits may be part of the picture, but their limits and portability need attention.

Think about future care needs

Long-term care planning involves possible care settings, family responsibilities, affordability and policy conditions. It is distinct from medical insurance and income replacement. Discuss available approaches and involve qualified financial, tax or legal professionals when their advice is needed.

This guide is general educational information. Policy wording, plan documents, eligibility and individual circumstances determine the available options and coverage.
